Very nice show, worth the download
Wow, I wonder what the Lake Boone Country Club is! I've got some great shows from there, by Derek Trucks, by Leftover Salmon, and others. The place must be awesome.
This is a nice, rough-around-the-edges performance by Derek. The newer (2006) lineup is smoother, jazzier, and certainly boasts better vocals, but their early lineup was intense, and it's obvious Derek is really pushing himself to explore the boundaries of his musical ability. I've got a half dozen or so shows from pre-1999 (kind of the year he "broke through") and this is one of the better ones. Another one from Lake Boone (1993, I think), is also very, very good.
If you like the New Agey-jazz-world music stuff Derek is playing today, this may not be for you. His stuff today is, IMHO, too polished. This one is rough -- and that's the way I like it!
Five stars -- and shake 'em on down!
